New Dropcloth slipcover

 Hi everyone!
I've been missing in action this past week.
Just taking a little time off and working on a project.

I want to thank you all for the awesome lampshade advice!
So many of you were so sweet to help me with this lampshade dilemma.
The majority of you thought the new lampshade was a little too small for the base and I agree. I am going to return both of  the burlap/linen shades.
Some of you suggested that I cover the white shade, which is something I thought of but a fabric on top of the shade would allow little light in through the shade and I use these lamps for reading.
I am going to do what some of you suggested and keep the white shades and hold out for something that fits.
Once again, so appreciative of all your help!

Now here is what I've been working on this week.
I bought a matching pair of these club chairs at GW a few months ago with the idea of slipcovering them.
They are a hideous lovely green velvet underneath. Lol.



It took me about a week to finish this one, with plenty of time off in between for my back to recuperate!
I used my favorite painter's dropcloth to cover this. Love the look and it fit my budget.



 Do you notice the seam in the middle of the seat panel? Didn't even notice it until I had the seat cover on.
Argh! May do this seat cover over again.


Here it is again with a different throw pillow. I love them both!



You can see the ladder I got at the antique barn last weekend with hubby, behind the chair. It was 11 feet tall so hubby cut it down to fit my 8 foot ceilings. Really luv these old ladders.

I still have another chair to do! Ugghh.
I think I'll take some time off before starting it though!

    Wow, looks beautiful!!! I think the seam down the middle is kind of cute but I know how when things bother you sometimes it's best just to redo it. You did a great job and should be so proud of your chair(s).

    I think you did a fabulous job recovering your chair! I can't believe it only took you a week - I think it would take me forever! Don't suppose you'll show us the "lovely green velvet" before?

    What a comfortable cosy corner you've made with your slip covered chair. I am guessing the ladder was that great color when you got it - looks old with lots of wear and fits that spot so well.

    Hi Kim, the slipcover chair looks amazing. You have such a great eye for seeing the potential in things. I'm quite fond of the floral pillow and the ladder behind the chair is so charming. Did you pick that up at the Aberfoyle market? I have to see if it's close to me...I want to go there!

    Your chair looks so good. Drop cloth is great to work with but they do piece it together sometimes. Working around seams can be annoying. I don't think it detracts from the slipcover, but I know how it is when something bugs you.

    It looks fabulous! I just passed by a chair at GW today for 4.99, maybe I should go back. You could put a row of buttons on your boo boo and it would look like you made it that way on purpose. You did a great job.

    Wow, that slipcover turned out so well, Kim! Love that ruffly skirt and the cording enhances the curviness of the chair so prettily. I don't sew much, but when I worked on curtains last month, I was surprisingly sore afterwards. Guess I hunch up when I work! Good luck doing the next slipcover--you really nailed the first one.

    You could hold up a couple of buttons near that front seam and see how you like it.
    That way it could look intentional.
    By the way... I did not notice it till you made reference.

    I think you made the right decision about the lamps! :) And now, for the real reason I am posting....that CHAIR! Oh my goodness, I wish you would make one for me! I don't sew, but am in love with the dropcloth "look" and have a very similar chair in our Master. I slipcovered it with a very similar fabric (it's not totally draped, but slightly fitted), but I would have preferred doing what you did. Alas, no talent. Nice job!!

    Wow! Great Job! I do this for a living so I know how much time and work goes into it!!! Lots and Lots!!!! If you need a source for inexpensive canvas or denim try " dharma trading .com " You can get yards of fabric for $5 per yard bleached or natural....linen too! I just did all my livingroom furniture in the bleached bull denim for very little money..... I sooo love your home so much insperation!!!! Makes me happy!

    What a beautiful slip cover. I recently read about making slipcovers from painters drop cloths. I'm seriously considering it. I'm curious how they wash up. I've got 3 children and they are not one bit concerned about my furniture.

    Great slipcover and I LOVE the pillow. Could you just turn the seat over so the joined area will be on the bottom? At least it wouldn't be as obvious that way. The thing about slipcovers is they aren't going to be perfect, so it would be okay to leave it. Yet if it bothers you, I'd fix it because it will always bother you. Either that or throw a throw over that chair so you don't see it. Really though, I didn't even notice it until you pointed it out, so probably the only person who will ever notice it is you. Hope that helps.

    I've always wanted to do a slipcover of this magnitude. You did a great job! Maybe you could layer a sweet little quilt just so, a little askew to hide the seam. It would bug me too but your wise to let it go at least until you have nothing better to do.
